The ship was carrying a cargo of wood from Walsum to Bizerte and was located 18 nautical miles west of the island of Ouessant.
After the engine damage it had lost much of its deck cargo over night, but the stability was not affected.
The CROSS broadcasted on VHF alerts to mariners in the area.
The Maritime Prefect decided to dispatch the emergency
tug "Abeille Bourbon" from its position off Ouessant at 11.30 a.m.
which took the ship in tow to Brest.
Actually the convoy was still in the Bay of Biscay.
